If you’re looking for a private, heritage listed property to host your Wedding in the Canberra region then we may have the answer you have been searching for…
Introducing Elm Grove Canberra:
Tell us a little bit about your stunning venue, Elm Grove Canberra.
Elm Grove is a heritage listed (2008), private property located in the Gungahlin area. It boasts an array of beautiful features, which includes two huge elm trees, original water well surrounded by a blue stone wall, ironbark bridge, open paddocks, red granite driveway and much more. The photo opportunities are endless. Guests can enjoy the idyllic surrounds following their ceremony, and the privacy and exclusive nature of the property.
Elm Grove is the only remaining working property within Gungahlin. Its fine wool and hay production has continued since the Gillespie family first occupied the area in the 1840’s. In 1986 the current owners, the Carmody family, purchased the lease and expanded the acreage with the purchase of the neighbouring Oak Hill property in 1997.
Property owners, Yukari and Lee are extremely proud to offer couples the opportunity to marry at Elm Grove and experience a venue which is truly unique, beautiful and timeless.
Do Brides and Grooms work with a dedicated Elm Grove Canberra event consultant to plan their wedding? Does that include sourcing other Wedding suppliers?
An Elm Grove team member meets with couples to initially show the property and answer questions. This is a booked, half hour meeting. If couples make a booking they complete a booking form which captures all the necessary details required for the Elm Grove team to support the couple’s vision for their special day. Couples provide the names of vendors to Elm Grove so the property owners are aware of who will be coming on to the property. Elm Grove provides recommendations for caterers, celebrants, structures, styling companies etc. They also offer a rehearsal prior to their big day where an Elm Grove team member walks the couple through the ceremony and demonstrates what to expect on the day.
What guest numbers do you cater for, for Wedding ceremonies and the reception?
Elm Grove caters comfortably for 150. However, having the abundance of space means there is room for larger weddings. This can be organised in consultation with the property owners.
The property is definitely a stunning place for a ceremony, but is there a Plan B?
So far Elm Grove has been lucky enough not to have had rain for any ceremony! However, we do have a Plan B to ensure all ceremonies can still proceed successfully if it is raining. Elm Grove can organise marquee gazebos if necessary and this is discussed with the couple 48 hours in advance. There is a fee for the hire of the gazebos and the number of structures hired is up to the couple. Elm Grove has also partnered with Leumeah Lodge in Nicholls who can offer couples the use of a function room if the weather is going to be particularly bad. There is a cost to hire the room.
What days are available for Weddings? Do Weddings have exclusive use of the venue for their special day?
Elm Grove has held weddings on Fridays and Saturdays, however, we are open to taking bookings for other days of the week. Yes, weddings have exclusive use of the venue for their special day.
Can you tell us a little bit about the packages you have.
We host ceremonies on the property for $880. This gives couples up to 2 hours on the property which we find is plenty of time to have a ceremony and photographs. Additional time can be arranged. This price includes up to 28 white wedding chairs (set up), bluetooth speaker system and microphone, signing table and linen. Couples also have exclusive use of the property with an Elm Grove team member on hand to ensure the smooth running of the day.
Receptions start at $3,300. This does not include a structure (marquee/tipi). Couples hire these, with recommendations from us, at their own expense. The property fee gives couples exclusive use of Elm Grove and includes the ceremony. We also organise toilets, power, water.
How far in advance do couple need to look at booking a Wedding at Elm Grove?
We have had some couples book their wedding a month in advance! Really it just comes down to availability. However, we won’t book over a year in advance. Elm Grove isn’t about booking back to back weddings so we tend to have a lot more flexibility for those who book only a couple of months out.
What advice do you have for brides when they are deciding on a venue?
You must go and look at your venue! You will know straight away if it’s the right place for you. Elm Grove holds viewings on the last Sunday of each month. This is a great opportunity for couples to view our property and ask questions. This personal approach is beneficial to both parties.
What is your favourite wedding story?
One couple that married on the property chose their wedding date as it was their 10 year anniversary of when they officially started dating. Couples choose dates for particular reasons and I was lucky enough to learn about the sentiment behind their special date.
Another couple, actually the first couple to marry at Elm Grove, recently had their first baby!
What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2016/2017 weddings?
I think we are definitely moving away from formal weddings surrounded by four walls in a building. It seems that couples want a more relaxed feel to their weddings, in a beautiful setting with great food that fills their tummy! Elm Grove is a blank canvas where couples can create their own vision and add a unique flair. We provide the stunning backdrop (and to die for sunset) and give couples the opportunity to create their own feel through their structure, chosen caterer and styling.
