What advice do you have for brides choosing their jewellery/accessories?
If you can try to stick to one style of jewellery throughout the bridal party and try not to go too over the top. Try to keep it simple. Remember you want your jewellery to compliment your dress and your bridal party’s attire, not take away from it. The beautiful gowns and tuxedos should be the stars of the show.
A good place to start is to try and find a few things that compliment your engagement ring and both your wedding rings. Even if you and your partner’s wedding rings don’t match exactly try to find things that tie in with the style of one of them and continue that style throughout the rest of the bridal jewellery collection.
How early should brides look at ordering?
We generally allow 6 weeks to handcraft your piece, but the earlier we can get the design finalised and source the appropriate materials the less stressed you will be in the last few months. Keep in mind that if it is a rare or unusual gemstone or design that you have your heart set on it may be worth starting to organise things a bit sooner as sometimes it can take a little longer to source and create specialised pieces.
What other services do MistyK Jewellery concepts provide?
We can also organise professional hand engraving and stone setting services as well as pearl restringing and independent valuation services.
What is your favourite wedding story?
Well my favourite wedding story besides my own wedding day of course, (which I’m struggling to find one particular story for because the whole day was so amazing!) would have to be when I was a flower girl at my Aunty and Uncle’s wedding when I was about five years old. It was the first wedding I’d been to and being the 80’s was sporting a puffy fringe, a puffy dress consisting of stain and fine mesh. Oh and of course white stockings and shiny white shoes! 🙂
But I just remember almost being in awe of the whole day really; the dressing up, the photos (which I also remember getting bored with quite quickly!), but the main thing I remember was the smiles, the laughter, the dancing, the happiness and love that seem to encapsulate everybody that day. I suppose in a way that wedding sparked an internal flame inside me and gives me great pleasure to be able to create something beautiful for a bride and groom to adorn and reflect on their special day forever.
What do you love most about jewellery/accessories?
I personally love the fact that jewellery and accessories can truly set the tone of an outfit. Or change the direction entirely… picture yourself wearing your favourite little black dress to a work function with a classic Gold and Diamond or Pearl set and then by night, wearing the same dress, you can completely transform your look by making more of a statement with your jewellery and maybe a different pair of heels or handbag. I find it’s a bit like getting your hair done, or wearing a beautiful dress; it can literally change the way you feel when you wear it.
What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2017/2018 weddings?
I feel the vintage theme for weddings will still be going strong, but with a twist of vintage glamour. Imagine an industrial style setting with large over the top floral centrepieces or large hanging centrepieces with blush rose coloured flowers and hints of baby’s breath…set aglow with twinkling lights and candles to create the ultimate modern romantic environment for your guests.
Another big upcoming trend is two-piece bridesmaids dresses. I am really loving some of the designers creations in this space… soft flowing lines with midriff, gypsy style cuts. This trend ties in beautifully with the vintage glam vibe.
Metallics will still be prominent in the wedding colour palette for 2017, but instead of bright, polished metallics we will be adorned with subtle matte finishes. Match brushed metallics with bright white for a contemporary but timeless look.
