With New Years and Valentine’s Day just passed we feel as if our 2017 News Feed has been inundated with lovely wedding announcements and beautiful images of proposals for weeks now. Isn’t it an amazing time of year?!
Well, it can be… if you have a little helping hand!
Just because you’re now a Bride-to-be (congratulations by the way!!) it doesn’t mean that you have to automatically take on the full time role of Event Manager.
There are experts out there that are fabulous at what they do, with connections in the most weird and wonderful places, who may just be the guru you are looking for to assist you in eliminating some stress and, surprisingly, some of the expense of your upcoming wedding!
This week we spent an afternoon with the lovely Canberra duo, Lizzy and Kate, of Wren & Rabbit Productions to ask about their experience in the industry as Stylists/Event Managers. We simply love the spirit that these girls bring to the table!
Can you tell us a bit about Wren and Rabbit Productions and how the business came about?
We (Kate and Lizzy) met nearly 6 years ago, when Kate was the Production Manager for the National Folk Festival here in Canberra. Lizzy came on board as the Set Design Coordinator – it was pretty much friendship at first sight! We knew early on that we loved working together, and that we made a pretty amazing team. Starting a business was a natural progression from this. We were both excited about the idea of being creative full time – it’s still a lot of hard work, but also incredibly satisfying.
Where are you based and what areas do you service?
We are based in Canberra, and service the entire ACT and surrounding region. We’re happy to travel anywhere, though, especially if it’s overseas!
Do you have styling / decorating packages that couples can choose from or do you work on customising each Wedding?
Every wedding we style is completely bespoke, from beginning to end. For every new couple, we will sit down and talk through their ideas, dreams and vision, and put together a styling package that matches this as closely as possible. The more creative we get to be, the better! Because of the highly personal and customised service we offer, costs vary depending upon the job. We work hard to keep our costs transparent, however, and we will always work with a couple to find a way to create something wonderful within their budget.
Do you have a particular style or theme that you specialise in?
We don’t specialise in a specific style or theme. We would like to think we could do anything! We both love working with beautiful flowers and greenery, and are always excited to be able to bring a touch of colour and whimsy to a job.
Do you have a wide range of products that couples can choose from? Do you have a warehouse or studio that couples can visit to select items (whether you are styling or they are going DIY)?
We have many items that we hire out to clients who want to DIY, or only have us provide specialised custom pieces. Our website, www.wrenandrabbitproductions.com has a hire catalogue that we regularly update. We also can build custom props for couples who want something a little different. We would like to think there is no limit to what we are able to offer our couples.
What inspires you when it comes to selecting your pieces?
We are both very inspired by pieces that have a special decorative flair, or are a bit unique. We love beautiful or interesting materials as well – concrete, decorative brass or metal and wood.
What is involved in your event management services?
We provide the entire gamut of wedding design and management. We are especially passionate about floristry and design, and can style and design every aspect of a wedding.
How early should couples book in for your services?
I would say at least 8 months out, but earlier is better – a year is ideal. This is in part because we generally are booked up 6-12 months out from events, and you will struggle to get a booking last minute. It also takes a great deal of time, thought and care to design and plan a wedding, and the more time you give us, the more creative and stress free the process will be.
What advice do you have for Brides when they are working out their wedding style?
This is definitely a highly personal area! Every couple is unique. Using Pinterest is definitely a great place to start when researching wedding style ideas. We are also happy to have a sit down and talk through ideas, and give you some ideas. It’s completely OK if you are struggling with a style – that’s what we’re here for! We pride ourselves on being able to help couples develop a look and feel that suits them. When in doubt, think – what do you want your wedding to FEEL like? This is a great place to start.
What do you love most about being a part of weddings?
Being able to help create a sense of magic for a couple and their friends and families. We think celebrations give people an excuse to pause, to relax, express themselves and have fun. Weddings are a significant milestone in the lives of a couple AND their families, a day to be remembered forever. We love going out of our way to make it memorable. Being involved with joyous celebrations is the best!
When you’re not organising weddings what do you love to spend your time doing?
We spend as much time relaxing as possible, to make up for our very busy schedules! Travel is vitally important to both of us, and we both love decorating our own homes, eating delicious food, having a beer with friends and basically soaking up as much of life as we can.
For 2017/2018 what sort of trends do you think there will be with wedding styling?
The Pantone colour of the year is literally called ‘greenery’, and we think this will be a big influence. We think couples will be engaging even more with the abundant foliage trend, with naturalistic florals becoming even more popular. ‘Romantic industrial’ is also a look that’s really gaining popularity – a combination of bare wooden tables, concrete or metal elements, soft flowing fabrics and lots of opulent flowers.
