Choosing your wedding flowers isn’t necessarily about selecting your favourite flowers and hoping they work with everything else you have selected for your special day. You really do need to take into account your dress, your bridal party’s dresses, the theme of your ceremony and reception as well as what flowers are actually in season.
A florist is a wealth of knowledge! And working with them to select seasonal flowers can actually assist with your budget (after all, who isn’t looking for ways to save a little when it comes to your wedding!)
This week we caught up with Lobna from Zahara Flower Studio to talk blooms at weddings.
If you’re heading to the Gold Coast Bespoke Bride Wedding Fair she has a special for Brides in attendance! Yes!!!!
Can you tell us a bit about Zahara Studio and how you started in the industry?
I was working a desk job for many years but always liked to get creative and use my hands. My mum was a florist for a few years and I remember doing a wedding with her at a younger age and loved it. So I decided to move to London to train and worked there for a year and upon my return I started Zahara. I love using different textures and elements such as fruits, herbs, vegetables and foliage to create a beautiful backdrop. Zahara is elegant as much as it playful and we love reflecting our couple’s personality through our work.
Why did you decide to move to the East Coast?
I moved here for my husband’s work, but am looking forward to exploring this beautiful part of the country!
Where are you based and what areas do you service?
We are based on the Gold Coast but also service Brisbane and the Byron Bay area.
Do you have a favourite flower?
Peonies and lily of the valley.
What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about their wedding flowers and styling?
Don’t be afraid of colour. Pops of colour can look amazing without overwhelming the venue. Most important, keep it simple and keep it fun.
When do couples have to book in for your beautiful flowers? When is the very latest that couples should be thinking about flowers for their wedding?
The more time the better, but the absolute latest is 3-4 weeks to avoid disappointment of not getting the flowers you hope for. 3-6 months is more than plenty of time.
What is your favourite wedding story?
My own! A whole bunch of family and friends and I arranged my wedding flowers and it was such a wonderful bonding experience. It was exhausting but I would never change it.
What other services or products do Zahara Studio provide, other than amazing Wedding florals?
We are in the process of establishing a wedding favours service so keep your eyes peeled or enquire within.
Do you have any specials that we can provide to our Bespoke Brides who attend the Gold Coast event?
We are pleased to offer Bespoke Brides 10% off any wedding/engagement service valid for 12 months from the Gold Coast event (please note: there is a minimum $500 spend for this offer).
